On what started out as a very sunny Saturday, January 14th, 2017, I made my way to Manhattan in preparation for my photography meetup. Upon arrival, I realized that my mode of transportation was not the best option because it turns out parking in Manhattan was over $35 and in some cases, they only took cash which I didn't have, so that was an unpleasant costly surprise.
I was the first to arrive at our meetup venue Latitude Bar & Grill on 8th Avenue in Manhattan. I do not drink, so the waitress recommended to me a non-alcoholic beverage, a mixture of pineapple and cranberry juice which I must say was an awesome blend. The venue was a great meeting location because I was able to sit down with all the attendees, shared great stories and get to know everyone in the process.
After the meetup, I decided to do an impromptu free workshop. The workshop extended the meetup from what should have been from 1PM to 3PM to 1PM to 7PMish. The one factor I didn't anticipate was the weather because as I stated above the day started out very sunny, but as we ventured outside we were greeted with snow and very cold weather. That said, we brave through it all and created some wonderful portraits. In the workshop, we focused on working with artificial light and a little bit of natural light. Given this was not my standard workshop, I addressed mostly questions and created portraits with mostly one light source. Towards the end of the workshop, I introduced a secondary light source.
I want to extend a very big thank you to all who attended the meetup. I really did enjoy myself and mostly appreciated all the great conversations we had. I look forward to more adventures in my upcoming trips to New York and I really look forward to better weather :-).
If you would like to attend one of my workshops, please join our meetup group and check for the next available workshop. If you don't see any upcoming workshops just contact me directly and we put something on the calendar.
