Caller 94 | Cary, North Carolina Photographer
Research, photography workshops, and practice were and remained the key components to growing my craft. I have taught myself all that I know in photography thus far; however, picking up a book and digesting the information was not enough for me. Combining the knowledge gained through literature and photography workshops, with practice are essential to augmenting my skill-set.
What I have learned over time is that practice without measurable progression, was very frustrating for me, if I’m unable to gauge the progress I made. For example, in the past when I practiced my lighting setups, the images from those sessions I would be hesitant to show it to anyone for feedback so, I would delete them and move on. My hope was that I would retain the knowledge, which to some extent I did, but it's not until I started documenting my journey through videos and not deleting the images, is when I started to notice progress.
Every practice session doesn't have to result in total success; you can fall-short of your original goal, but still have notable success. During a previous practice session, I didn't achieve my ultimate goal, but I did learn a great deal about what light temperature I didn't like and now I know what to avoid or possibly apply differently.
In this practice session, my focus was lighting and evoking a great expression from my subject. I learned a few new things about lighting which was great. I would like to practice some more to ensure it's something I can repeat and it wasn't a one-off.
The title "Caller 94" came about because throughout the photo session, we were joking about how close our model Lauren Anjelica was at becoming the 94th caller to win tickets to a free concert.
I want to thank model Lauren Anjelica who helped to make this session an amazing success.
